(Huffman)- Hargrave’s only former Major League Baseball player is getting his-his well deserved, unsolicited reward for the support that he has given to his alma mater’s high school baseball program. The middle of this month should be about the time, if you believe the timetable set up by Falcon Varsity Head Baseball Coach Tom DeBerry, and when that time finally arrives Keith Foulke will meet his namesake- the “Keith Foulke Indoor Batting Cage Facility.” The man who threw the pitch that gave Boston’s Red Sox the 2004 World Series Championship was very honored by the plaque featuring a picture of last season’s 3A Regional Quarterfinalists, and the post alumni game declaration. “It’s a great honor to have this named for you and it feels good knowing that I played a part in helping them raise money to get this done. This (facility) will help this very successful program to continue to grow,” Foulke says.
Foulke flew overnight from his Arizona home to get to Huffman in time for the program’s fundraising golf tourney at the Newport Golf Course in Crosby. He was joined for that event and the subsequent fundraising luncheon by former Astros pitcher Chris Sampson. New Caney High’s current major leaguer Adam Dunn, along with Crosby’s major / minor leaguer J.R. Towles were expected to be at the events as well, but didn’t make it. Dunn was tied up with his new team’s winter marketing caravan in the midwestern US. He recently signed a contract with the Chicago White Sox. DeBerry says the “shotgun” style Golf fundraiser appeared to be a success.
